Huntington diseaseHuntington disease (HD) is an inherited disease that causes wasting of some cells in the brain. People are born with the defective gene but symptoms do not appear until after 30 or 40 years. The initial symptoms of HD may include uncontrolled movements, clumsiness or balance problems. Later, the EH may prevent walk, talk or swallow. Some people fail to recognize family members. Others are aware of their surroundings and express their emotions.

If one parent has Huntington’s disease, you have a 50 percent chance of having it. A blood test can tell if you have the HD gene and if you develop the disease. Genetic counseling can help you weigh the risks and benefits of undergoing the analysis.

There is no cure. Medicines can help control some symptoms, but can not delay or stop the disease.

October 30, 2010 · Posted in Diseases · Comment

Hepatitis A Hepatitis A is a type of hepatitis – liver disease – caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). The disease is spread primarily through food or water contaminated with feces from an infected person. HAV can become infected by:

* Eating food prepared by a person with HAV who did not wash their hands after using the toilet
* Having anal or oral sex with someone with HAV
* Not washing hands after changing a diaper
* Drinking water contaminated
